Description:

INTERNATIONAL KITE FESTIVAL, NEWPORT RI

Please join us for a terrific day at the International Kite Festival in Newport RI.

The Kite Festival is held every year at Brenton Point State Park in Newport. Brenton Point is a beautiful park located right on the ocean with plenty of open space, picnic areas and ocean viewing.

When the Kite Festival is in town, the sky over the park is filled with brilliantly colored Kites from 3 feet long to over 50 feet long, people from all over the world gather there to show the rest of us just how far the art of Kite Flying has come! Itís quite a sight and I know you all will enjoy it.

Our Destination will be Fort Adams State Park. We will park there for free in plenty of open space. The festival organizers have shuttle buses running from Fort Adams to Brenton Point where the Kites are flying. Shuttles run constantly and itís about a 10 minute ride! There is limited parking at Brenton point which is why we will park at Fort Adams.

However, Fort Adams itself is a great place to visit and you may want to visit there first before going over to the Kite Festival.

Fort Adams is a National Historic Landmark, built between 1824 Ė 1857; it is the largest coastal fortification in the US. And oh by the way, on July 10th there will be a huge Civil War Reenactment event taking place at the Fort with over 500 participants outfitted for the occasion.

Between the Kite Festival, Fort Adams and visiting Newport Harbor with all itís shops and sights it will be a very full day.

Lunch is open, there are plenty of vendors selling food at both parks or bring a picnic lunch.

Dinner will be at 5:30 at the Atlantic Beach Club which is a great restaurant (Carolyn and I have eaten there) and itís located right on the Ocean. I need your RSVP on dinner so I can make reservations.
