Western MA Fall Foliage Drive ’05
Rescheduled to OCTOBER 22!!!
Due to weather conditions & flooding, the ride as been rescheduled to Saturday, October 22, 2005.
Drive ’05 Update IV,
If you are planning to meet up at the Holiday Inn, Rt 20 and 495
in Marlboro, Jack Intinarelli will serve as group leader.
He is going to make sure that you leave by 9 AM and get to Exit #3!!!
Latest temperature forecast for Saturday is lower 50s, a heat wave!
Drive ’05 Update III,
Due to the overwhelming response to this ride, we have changed the starting point from the Friendly’s Restaurant to the Wendy’s Restaurant. Wendy’s will not be open at that time of the morning so we will have more parking spaces. As you come off Exit #3 of the Mass Pike, turn right; Wendy’s is on your right.
If you need a coffee or a rest room, continue straight off Exit #3 and go to Friendly’s first then join the group across the street.
Take note: there is NO REST ROOM along the Drive route! Once we start – you will need to wait 2 ½ hours for the next facility!
The plan is to arrive at Wendy’s starting at 10 AM and start the ride after a driver’s meeting @ 10:45 AM
Drive ’05 Update II,
When Dennis LaPlante came up with the idea to sponsor a Western Massachusetts run, we thought we would be lucky to have 8 or 10 cars come out to our part of the state. At last count, we have 29 cars planning to search for foliage on October 15! That is great, thank you all for your interest!
The leaves have started to turn and today’s weather reminds us that October is only a week away. I am confident that you will enjoy the route we have planned, with a little cooperation from Mother Nature; it will be a scenic pleasure. For those of us who store the Miata for winter, this will be a nice end-of-the year drive.
We are not planning any special arrangements for the lunch following the ride. We will end about 3:00 pm at a restaurant/pub in Westfield that has a reasonable lunch menu. It is your choice to stay for lunch and order from the menu. I would like to give the restaurant a heads up of a possible number of people to expect, so in another week or so, I will send an email asking if you plan to stay for lunch and I will relay the numbers to the restaurant, so start thinking about it.
Dennis LaPlante is recovering from an illness and although he assures me he will there for the Drive, he may not be able to respond to your emails, so if you have any questions, please direct them to me.
Looking forward to seeing everyone on October 22!
The Mass Miata Club is holding a Fall Foliage Drive through the "Hidden Hills" of Western Massachusetts on Saturday, October 22, 2005 with a rain date the following day.
The Drive will travel down little known local routes such as "The Lafayette Trail" and "The Skyline Drive", tree-lined roadways that will get you up close and personal with the foothills of the Berkshires. This will be a leisurely ride through beautiful, historic, back country roads highlighting some of the most scenic areas of Massachusetts. There will be plenty of "Kodak Moments" as well as opportunities to appreciate the handling characteristics of your Miata.
Imagine cruising along a hilly, curvy, newly paved road that is shaded by trees proudly showing off their most vibrant colors! This is the peak of the foliage season, so if Mother Nature cooperates, we will see an array of spectacular colors. But even if she doesn’t, we will still experience some great Miata roads!
Pack a snack and a drink for a roadside picnic; we’ll have a full lunch at the end of the ride!
The starting point for the cruise will be the Friendly`s Restaurant at 21 Southampton Road, Rt. 10, Westfield, straight off Mass Pike exit 3.
Those coming from the east will caravan from the Marlborough Holiday Inn, Rt. 20 and Rt. 495 leaving at 9:00 am and traveling west on the Mass Pike to exit 3, Westfield.
If it is easier for you to meet the group at Friendly`s on Rt. 10 in Westfield, plan to arrive by 10:00 am.
Contact Brian Rust firstname.lastname@example.org or Dennis Laplante email@example.com and let us know you plan to attend. We will contact you with other trip information.
This ride is open to anyone with a Miata and an appreciation for the history and beauty of Western Massachusetts!
Drive ’05 Update I,
Dennis and I did another dry run of the Fall Foliage Drive ’05 route today and made some improvements. We found a small New England town common where we can park for a group photo. There is a small country store across the street and a local museum will be open with displays and best of all…………a restroom!
If the weather cooperates, there will be some spectacular foliage sights to be seen and we have a few special “photo op” spots selected. There will be plenty of twisty, tree-lined roads sporting brand new pavement along with hills and a few scenic vistas.
This will be a fun ride that will take you a little off the usual beaten path for leaf peepers.
If you’ d like to get your sweatshirt or commemorative poster of the Drive, go to Fall Foliage Drive Stuff and place an order. There is NO PROFIT on these items, they were designed just to enhance your experience.
