Description: Visit to the Air Museum and Rides in Antique Airplanes

Please sign up by August 1stst. so I can get a head count on the tour

This is a reminder that everyone that wishes to go on the Air Museum trip, the payment should be in by Aug 1st so I can get an accurate count for lunch and the tour. So far we have 25 cars and 43 people attending. I want to remind everyone that the airplane rides are “weather permitting” I have arranged so far my airplane a 1946 Luscombe, a 1946 piper cub and a 1943 Boeing Stearman bi-plane, due to the fact that everyone will want to go in the Stearman I am going to have a lottery in the parking lot before we enter the airport the owner has agreed to take 7 people for rides on that day, the rest of the rides will be done in the other aircraft. I look forward to the trip and showing everyone my other passion besides Miata’s.

All are invited to join in a scenic ride through central Connecticut for a visit to New England Air Museum www.neam.org then on some very scenic roads to an Ice cream stop then continue on for some more scenic views.

  • Leaving from Walmart parking lot in Sturbridge MA. Exit Mass Pike at RT84 then take RT20 east for about a mile, Walmart is on the left. We will have to leave by 9:00 AM to arrive at the Museum at 10:00am for our tour.
  • On departing Sturbridge we will travel on some scenic roads down to the Museum.
  • At The Museum we will have plenty of parking. The cost of the Museum is $20.00 per person which includes a tour which is about 2 hours long and lunch (sandwich or wrap, pasta salad, chips and a drink) after lunch we will spend a short time in the museum or gift shop. It should be quite interesting, take a look at their web site for more information.
  • I will need a deposit of $20 per person by Aug 1stth if you have to cancel a refund of $8 will be returned the remaining $12 is what they will charge for the lunch. Please send the check to John A LaRoche 19 Kibbe Road Ellington CT 06029 (Tel 560/872-4869)
  • Leaving the Museum (approx 2:00 PM) we will travel a short distance on some very nice farm and scenic roads to Collins Creamery farm for an Ice Cream stop.
  • From the Ice Cream stop we will travel back to RT. 91 so everyone can head up to the mass pike and back to Eastern MA.
  • On our way back to RT 91 we will be passing Skylark Airport (7b6) where I keep my airplane, if the weather is OK and for anyone interested we will be stopping at the airport, where I have arranged for myself and some of my flying friends to give airplane rides. We will meet in the parking lot of the airport where I will give a short talk on safety and how we will be doing the rides. Everyone should be aware the airplanes I and my friends own our antique or classic aircraft designed and built in the 30’s and 40’s they were build when people were smaller so they are a tight fit for most of us today. I hope to have several types of aircraft beside my Luscombe, possibly a Boeing-Stearman bi-plane and a Tiger Moth bi-plane may be available for a limited number of rides.
  • Upon finishing the aircraft rides we will proceed west on RT 140 to RT 91 so everyone can return home.
